Morning! Life is settling somewhat back into a regular routine over here at our household. MGTV Hubby returns today, after spending what has passed in the month of May working on our BC home renos. "Oh," you're thinking, "So they must be done." Not so fast.

The Great Newsletter Roundup May 6, 2009

Posting is going to be on and off until next Tuesday - MGTV hubby is in BC working on our house, and I am going there for a very quick trip, to pick up a paint brush and lend my considerable opinions on things around the house. He reports that it is turning into a bigger (but better) project than he anticipated. Can't wait to see it! But til then I have laundry to do, a house to tidy for Duane's sitter, and oh yeah - work, too!

The Great e-Roundup May 4, 2009

A great weekend here in sunny LBC. On Saturday I met with a new writer for the mag (and new friend for me!) - one lovely Emma. We met at the wonderful Starling Diner, home of last week's recipe for Breakfast Bruschetta. I turned Emma on to it and I don't think she'll ever be the same!!
On Sunday I went to the Farmers Market... to deliver a batch of magazines to our April Eco issue cover man McKay Smith, the organic farmer.
His booth was so enticing that I ended up coming home with sweet onions, strawberries, asparagus and peas. Imagine the feast I had last night! Oh, and Duane too...turns out he quite likes peas.
I was very tempted to bring Duane a little brother, from Hearts for Hounds.
Just look at that guy! But...I thought better of it, and besides - the man holding the pup seemed to be quite attached.

The Great e-Roundup April 30, 2009

Good day, all! Ever closer to the weekend. I really love my job so I don't count the days or anything - but still, a rest would be nice. How is everyone doing with the swine flu hysteria? Overloaded, or completely freaked out? I think I am somewhere in the middle. Though I don't love an e-mail headline I just read, "Pandemic is Imminent". Schools are closing here in Southern California, as a preventative measure. Poor parents who need to work and can't arrange childcare - and those places that take kids are probably either full or shutting down too. Let's get through this together. Be careful out there.

The Great e-Roundup April 28, 2009

Happy Tuesday! No links yesterday so I'll report on my weekend now...which was, in a word, great! Well, maybe a little too much wine but that's what happens sometimes. Saturday night the magazine had a table at the In The Mood cancer fundraiser, held in an airport hangar. Very fun.
Friday night I dress shopped...
Found what I was looking for at White House Black Market. I knew the evening would be chilly so I wore a black cashmere cardi over top, with a black patent thin belt, and these shoes:
The evening was lovely, food was so good, entertainment was really cool.
Best of all, lots of money was raised!

And I can't help but share this funny photo from Sunday - we took Duane to a self-serve dog wash. The walk home was a wet one (for hubby and me!)...

Happy Friday!

One of the best parts of my day yesterday was getting a new iPhone app called CameraBag that renders all sorts of effects on images - my favorite being the Holga. I want to get a Holga camera one day but until then this is a high tech way to achieve sort of the same look.

The Great e-Roundup April 23, 2009

How was your Earth Day? Ours was great...lots of discussion (like about this car, the electric Tesla - Mama want one!)
both online and off about the state of the environment. There were some things that were notable.

One, some Facebook chatter had one commenter actually typing the words, "the global warming myth". Ohhhhh. Do NOT get me started.

Other people were talking about the fact that extinction is no worse now than in years past. I noted a Time magazine article that talked about the accelerated rate of extinction and the fact that human activity is responsible for a lot of it.

And then there was also the debate about compact fluorescent bulbs, with what I think is a huge knee-jerk reaction by people saying they won't use them in case they break. I can understand the fear - mercury is not good for people or animals, much less the planet, if it gets dispersed upon breaking. Just use common sense, and kid gloves, when using CFBs, and know how to properly clean up in the case of an accident, I say. But that's just me. Links below!

The Great e-Roundup April 21, 2009

I am feeling very much like nesting these days - our new home is so cozy and friendly, perfect for the three of us - me, hubby and pooch, and also great for entertaining. I just love it. It's far from done, this move of ours - I am surrounded by a few more boxes in this office. But it's coming along and the blogs I am visiting every day provide endless hours of inspiration. Good Monday morning, everyone! How was your weekend? Mine was full of wine & BBQ, friends and dogs and Scrabble, and the GRAND PRIX! I really wanted Danica Patrick to win but she came in 4th. Still, Dario Franchitti coming in 1st isn't such a bad thing, and the event was thrilling! AND sweaty - so hot (36C, 89F)!

Wow, I've been away for a while! Well, I'm back...we are moving in to our new home and we've been to Mexico for our friend's wedding and are halfway to recovering from our sunburns and stomach bugs. Woot! Links below, couple more after I walk the dog!
