ModernGear Women: Peasant blouses

I grew up in the age of the Supermodel, and we knew them by first name then...Elle, Linda, Christy, Claudia, Naomi...and Cindy. Now, they've all done very well for themselves in terms of aging (perhaps with assistance, maybe not), but the Supermodel who looks the most comfortable having strutted right off the runway and into normal civilian life, to me, is Cindy Crawford.

Her style, whether dressed up or dressed down, is age-appropriate but always incredibly body flattering and of-the-moment. My favourite look on Cindy, and the one I like to wear, is the casual jeans and peasant blouse pairing.

Worn with flip flops or flat sandals for a day of errand running, she actually makes such a simple outfit somehow look almost glamorous. Add heels into the mix as in this next blouse and jeans ensemble, and I don't think there can be any doubt that humanity is seeing a superior genetic being known as a supermodel.

Peasant (and poet) blouses are perfect for summer as they're not super tight, and the looser, lighter fabric helps you to keep cool in hotter weather, or provides more coverage if there's a chill in the air. If you'd like to rock this combo too, start with your favourite jeans, shorts, or skirt and footwear of your choice. Always keep in mind that your bottoms should be fairly form-fitting so the overall look is much more appealing than a loose and flowing top with a loose and flowing bottom.

Your peasant blouse shouldn't be tight across the bust or tummy, but full and even bordering on billowy, with either a loose or an elasticized bottom. Hopefully one of these peasant or poet blouses I've found in a round-up from my favourite online boutiques will offer the inspiration you need, to look like Cindy.

The red peasant blouse Ms. Crawford is wearing in the pictures is by Joie, so the first one I found from FashionChateau.com looks the most like hers.

If you can afford to shop and your clothing allowance allows you to spend the big bucks, then lucky you! If not, remember that you don't have to spend a lot to look really good. I've found a few really affordable tops that are peasant blouse-like as well, from Target, and available at target.com.

Peasant and poet blouses are a really easy to wear summer classic, and are great to throw on over top a swimsuit too. Perfect all summer long!

Thanks for taking the time out to give details on the peasant blouse style. Accenting this type of blouse with a straw hat and/or print-based earrings would seem to complete a summer look.
