People often ask me how I find such great stuff to write about. The answer is, in addition to a network of store owners, designers, entrepreneurs and publicists who let me in on new releases, I also just keep my ears and eyes open. I look for stories, and I'm not afraid to approach someone carrying, wearing or using something that I think looks interesting. I often go scouting, which is just essentially window shopping, talking to the store owners who know what is hot and what their clientele like, and letting my eyes scan and fingers do the walking - feeling fabrics and textures.
So I decided to venture out and I took a scouting trip to Malibu and Santa Monica yesterday, and Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and Laguna Beach today. I found a ton of goodies that I'll be researching and telling you about over the weeks to come, but I wanted to share one right away.
One label I really liked the look of online but hadn't seen much of in Vancouver is Ella Moss, and I saw a lot of the summer collection today. And let me tell you, I liked what I saw! The line, designed by Pamella Protzel and based in Los Angeles, still uses a lot of the tonal stripes it became well-known for, but there are also many flowy and ultra feminine dresses and tops that caught my eye in every boutique I visited.
Here are some of my favourite items, from online boutiques where you can get 'em too:
Shopbop.com:
Ella Moss Piper Dress
$220
Available in all sorts of colours, too
Ella Moss Clementine Dress
$178
Ella Moss Ruby Dress
on sale $118.30
Ella Moss Jacinda Dress
Was $187, on sale for $93.50
I actually love that they named it the Jacinda dress as it totally reminds me of actress Jacinda Barrett...
And at Fashionchateau.com, they've got some nice Ella Moss but these are my faves:
Ella Moss Blush Tabitha Top
Was $108, now $86.40
Ella Moss Red Pepper Bow Front Top
$114
And over at Pink Mascara is my favourite dress from the summer collection:
Ella Moss Lurex Striped Dress
$183
People have also asked me why I don't go broke, buying the wonderful things I always write about. Well, I do have a great tactic. I definitely see something nice at the first boutique I walk into, but I tell myself that I don't know what is going to be in the next place I visit. There might just be something better around the corner...so I wait, look at it all, and go back if I think there's a piece that I absolutely must have. Today, though, I just kept moving...I had places to go and people to see, and you know what they say - a rolling stone gathers no Moss.

I don't have any Ella Moss clothing but I always pick it up and love it. Maybe we will find some together when I visit!
Ella Moss is one of my favorites. They have cute swimsuits and dresses. I fell in love when I saw Sarah Jessica Parker wearing the green and white striped dress on Sex and the City. I was dying for it. I just saw that hautelook.com is having a sample sale on this collection tomorrow and I can't wait to see if they have it.
